If you are heading to Orlando, FL next week to attend the annual Literacy Conference held by the International Literacy Association (ILA), don't forget to come to Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell's sessions! These discussions will offer educators a chance to hear directly from Fountas and Pinnell on two important subjects: RESPONSIVE TEACHING and TEACHING FOR COHERENCE. Both are hugely important factors for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of your instruction.

Here are the details on these two valuable sessions:

TEACHING FOR COHERENCE: A DESIGN FOR LITERACY INSTRUCTION Saturday, July 15, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Room: Orlando, OCCC, W414D (Exhibitor Session)

Explore the critical importance of teaching for coherence in this session with Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. Join them as they discuss the pursuit of coherence, which starts with a common vision, a culture of collaboration, and a commitment to authentic literacy learning. Plus, you'll get an exclusive, sneak-peek at the forthcoming Fountas & Pinnell Classroom(FPC)!! Light refreshments will be provided.

RESPONSIVE TEACHING: FOUR KEYS TO EFFECTIVE DECISION MAKING WITHIN THE GUIDED READING Sunday, July 16, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Room: Orlando, OCCC, W205B&C

Teachers make many decisions while teaching during a guided reading lesson, each decision has instructional impact. This moment-to-moment decision making is the greatest challenge for teachers. In this session, participants dig deeper to examine this complex process. The session includes a discussion and examples focus on four key areas of decision making—texts, teaching moves, discussion, and word analysis—that are essential to consider across the lesson framework for guided reading lessons.
